Yes, I HAVE a dental implant.
I had it fifteen years ago, when it was something quite new (at least in Italy) and I can assure you I am quite satisfied with it.
It's like having my own teeth, better, because I know these will last longer than the others.
I think that when I will loose my other teeth I won't have any doubt: I will choose another implant.
Of course it must be done IN THE RIGHT WAY, by an expert dentist.
If you live in Italy I could give you the address of mine, but if you don't, you can have a look at the Dental Implants directory which will help you to find the right professionals.
Normally getting a dental implant takes the work of two dentists.
First a dental surgeon (usually an oral surgeon or periodontist) places the dental implant post into your jawbone.
Then a restorative dentist (usually your general dentist or a prosthodontist) places a dental crown on top of this dental implant post. Dental implants can also be used to anchor bridges, partials and dentures.
Getting a dental implant starts with an evaluation by any one of the above dentists.
And in this directory you can browse by State.
You can also find an explanation about dental implants. What they are, how they work, when to do them.
Reading the most frequented questions you can also clear your eventually doubts.
So, if you are looking for a good ,lasting job, do not just go to the first unknown dentist...you could regret it...

Since I am in Italy who did you use? Any ideas on pricing, for full set unfortunately!
Thanks in anticipation.

I'm glad to have a read a post about someone who's so optimistic about dental implants. I'm gonna have a couple placed next week by my dentist (Raleigh-based), and I'm trying to muster courage by reading blogs and testimonials.
When my dentist first broke the news to me and showed me how implants look like, I almost fled the clinic. But the sedation dentist (Raleigh) explained to me that I won't feel a thing during the procedure. How about you, Patrizia? What was your experience?
Sarah,
I was very scared too, but they do the "tronculare" which is the anesthesia of the main nerve to that side of the mouth, so, I can assure you, you won’t feel anything, even though it could last long.
Was much less painful than a simple tooth reconstruction with local anesthesia.
It is twenty years now and I NEVER had any problem and I am thinking to do the same on the other side, I have a tooth that is breaking, but I wait till it breaks.
I guess it is really the only definitive job you can have.
It’s like having a new root and a new tooth.
Good luck!
I had the job done by a cousin of mine, who just died in September for a brain cancer...but since it is widespread any good dentist can do it.
The ony problem is, as usual, that it is not cheap...
Patrizia
Oh! really. here you talk about is quit true. That's why if you go for your teeth, first decide a dentist & then should go for the treatment. I give the information about this to my grandfather. Thanks....
