A new solution for the production of biofuel comes from the use of algae instead of food.
This besides being an alternative to oil dependence will also reduce automotive and aviation emissions by 2030 (around 80%).
Thre have been already experiments on the past which were abandoned since it was not possible to produce a commercial competition to oil prices.
It will be possible yo produce algae with very high oil content. They can grow very quickly, it just need to be done the job to select among the different algae species the one that can do both.
So, it is ironic to say so, but let's hope oil prices do not get as low as they used to be, because there won't be any need to research and find any alternative to it.
